The English Department at Farleigh aims to give children a thorough grounding in all aspects of literacy, and instil in them a real and lasting appreciation of literature.
"Excellent provision exists in many areas especially in English, art and design technology. In particular the school emphasises speaking skills and these are seen in the pupils who, as a body, are highly articulate. Boys and girls in Year 6, for example, spoke animatedly about, and their enjoyment of, certain lessons, notably mathematics and English." ISI Inspection Report, 2009
Your child will study the mechanics of the language, as well as analysing the way in which writers manipulate words to create effects. Throughout the course of their academic life at Farleigh, your child will study a wealth of authors and texts, try their hand at a wide range of writing styles and learn the importance of clear and effective communication.

Enrichment activities, which complement classroom teaching, are also
enjoyed by the children. Visiting speakers are regularly invited into school to share tips and tricks with the pupils… and inspire children to create masterpieces of their own!
