Mathematics

Maths at Farleigh is taught in ability groups from Years 4 to 8. In Year 3, the children are also set by ability towards the end of the Autumn Term.
Farleigh finalists in The Primary Maths Challenge
Practical equipment is used whenever possible to reinforce new ideas and your child will be encouraged to think for him or herself with investigative work.

The more able mathematician is stretched with various competitions and challenges, including inter-school competitions. Those who find maths more difficult are placed in smaller teaching groups to enable them to make as much progress as possible.

"Boys and girls in Year 6, for example, spoke animatedly about, and their enjoyment of, certain lessons, notably mathematics and English." ISI Inspection Report 2009

"An excellent understanding of aptitudes, needs and prior attainments of the pupils is shown. This was demonstrated very well in a Year 8 mathematics lesson on simultaneous equations in which the teacher set problems of a varying degree of difficult including a Mensa puzzle for the most able." ISI Inspection 2009
