Activities and clubs are good because you get to go outside and try new things like country dancing.” Katie, Yr 4
Cultural visits and field trips, involvement in the local community, competitions with other schools, be it debating, public speaking, general knowledge, leadership, maths, music, poetry, all give your child masses of opportunity to develop his or her interests.
Each term, your child can choose an activity, which he or she will take part in every Tuesday afternoon. Examples include badminton, baseball, chess, croquet, current affairs, dance, electronics, film making, fishing, golf, judo, model making, natural history, pet club, photography, play rehearsals, pottery, riding, soft-toy making, squash, table tennis, target shooting, tapestry, water polo, website design, woodland games and yoga, as well as mainstream sports, music, drama, art and craft.
Friday Clubs, similar to those on Tuesday, are open to children in Years 3 and 4. Children in Years 5 to 8 attend a lecture or concert designed to broaden their horizons. In the Spring Term these include a helicopter display by the Army Air Corps; a Year 7 Performing Arts Competition; and talks on an Everest expedition, a news reporter’s life, blindness, and the work of the charity Hope and Homes for Children.
