Thank you to the full boarders who, with Mrs Berry on Sunday, helped decorate the Library for World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. Pictured below are some of the boarders transforming the Library into a Greek
temple for the 'Lost Worlds' theme.
Thursday 1st March
Swap Shop
Books will need to come in to the
Library no later than Biscuit Break so that the Swap Shop can start
at lunchtime.
Page-Turner
Challenge
The reading ambassadors have
been helping to collate a chart of Farleigh pupils' favourite reads. A quiz has
been created online and the children have already begun voting for their
favourite books. Page-Turners
is a new initiative which encourages children to share their favourite books,
recommend reads to each other, and generally encourage one other with their
reading.
Live
Link
There will be a live link from the
Library between 11.00am-12.00 midday with famous authors and illustrators including
Jeremy Strong, Andy Stanton and Cressida Cowell, in what is being billed as,
'the Biggest Show on Earth' with thousands of schools across the nation joining in. Book Day vouchers will be handed out, and staff and pupils will be able to record themselves
reading from their favourite page-turner.
Thursday 8th March
Ali
Sparkes
Author Ali Sparkes ('Switch' series, 'Frozen In Time') is visiting and will give two talks - to Years 3 and 4, and to Years 5 and 6.
Book
Fair
Also on 8th March will be a Book Fair in the Home Room run by P&G Wells.
'Lost Worlds' Theme
The theme for the Book Week is ‘Lost
Worlds’. There will be lots of activities
based on the myths and legends of lost cities and, with a focus on
Greece, we will also be looking at the
ancient Olympic Games.
Friday 9th March
All pupils in Years 3-8 are invited to dress up as a character from a favourite book. Extra merits and prizes will be on offer if the book is from our Page-Turner reading list.
Cressida Cowell
Author Cressida Cowell ('How to Train Your Dragon') will be dropping in to the Library to sign copies of her books.
Friday 16th March
Damian Dibben
Author and actor Damian Dibben ('The History Keepers') is visiting the Library. His books will be available for purchase and
