Kindergarten

In the Kindergarten children progress at
their own pace, gaining confidence, developing independence, making decisions
and learning to share and co-operate with their friends.
A flexible and
thematic approach is used to meet the requirements of the ‘The Early Years
Foundation Stage’. Activities are planned and developed following the childrens
interests thereby ensuring enthusiasm, motivation and engagement. Opportunities
are found to include outside visits to enhance their learning and enjoyment.
The department benefits from two
well-resourced rooms, and a garden for both play and gardening activities. Use
is also made of the extensive grounds for exploring, making dens and climbing
trees. Specialist teachers take the children for dance, music and swimming.
Gaining independence
The Kindergarten staff have many years of
experience, led by Liz Dixon who joined the school in 2002, and four classroom
assistants. As a team they believe strongly in providing a supportive, safe and
secure environment that allows children to develop the resources they need to
cope with the challenges they will meet as they grow older.
Children will spend one year in the
Kindergarten before joining one of the Reception classes in the Pre-Prep. The
school day runs from 8.30am to 12.00noon – Monday to Friday, with the
opportunity to do full days on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – finishing at
3.25pm.
