| Two thirds of our pupils learn an instrument |
Music plays a crucial role in the all round education at Farleigh and the department aims to instil a lifelong love of music in all its pupils. A team of specialist teachers teaches the subject from Reception to Year 8: the Pre-Prep has a dedicated music teacher and the Prep School has a team of two full-time teachers.
In Years 3 to 6, children receive two lessons of music each week whilst, in Years 7 and 8, they receive one lesson. The curriculum is varied and aims to develop the skills of music making through fun and stimulating activities.

| Music at Farleigh is strong |
In Years 3 and 4, musical concepts are taught to approximately Grade 1 level, equipping pupils with a sound knowledge to achieve well in our topic based work further up the school. Topics studied by Years 5 to 8 include Medieval Music, Polyrhythm, Jazz and Blues, Song Composition and Film Music.
Singing plays an important role in the life of the school and besides the daily singing in Chapel and weekly hymn practices, class lessons, particularly in Years 3 to 6, incorporate a large amount of singing. The school is proud of its music scholars and potential scholars are identified early (from Year 6) and given plenty of encouragement, support and preparation.
