First Holy Communion
Seven hundred people gathered on a very hot day to watch 30 pupils make their First Holy Communion. The
children had spent six months preparing for this special day and their
excitement, and a few nerves too, were visible as they assembled in the
Sports Hall looking resplendent in their white dresses, and shirts and
ties.
Fr Simon's numerous props raised an enthusiastic response from everyone during the sermon, as the children discovered that the object
before was not always what it seemed and had the potential to be
something very different. A top hat, fan, collapsible drinking glass
and a shoe store all captured the children's imagination. It did not
take them long to make the link with what was about to happen to an
ordinary piece of bread in the Mass.
Family and friends watched on as
they quietly made their way forward to receive the Blessed Sacrament
and the joy on their faces was lovely to see, as it clearly meant a
great deal to them all. Later, as we all basked in the glorious
sunshine on the Headmaster's Lawn, everyone agreed that this truly was
a very special day and one we will remember for a long time.
