The recent Drama Scholars' Showcase had the audience members both on the edge of their seats, and out of their seats!
The children performed a variety of monologues which were prepared for their scholarships, to a captivated audience of staff and parents. On the day, we also threw in some spontaneous improvisation, performed by pupils and parents alike, and resulting in some very humorous moments.
The concept of these showcases is to highlight not only impressive, rehearsed monologues, but also the rawness of interpretive spontaneous acting. The children shared their progress by showcasing acting which engaged the audience by using purely their voices. In other words, anyone in the room could have closed their eyes, and the children's voices would have painted the entire picture.
