Dropping in on... Year 2 Shaping Up!

Following on from the colourful depictions of their own Paul Klee castles, with their abundance of 2D shapes, Year 2 have had an inspired lockdown lesson to continue this theme.

Following careful instructions, and a few examples, from Mrs Clarke and Mrs Collinge, the year group went off on their individual family walks in search of shapes. The Shape Walk revealed circles, squares, rectangles, hexagons, triangles and even octagons coming to life in the form of plaques on houses, trampolines, goal posts, rope ladders, bike wheels, car lights, planters and even sheds.

It was a great exercise in learning to record information as well. The children had to mark their findings using tally marks and then they had to take that information and turn it into a beautifully coloured graph, writing the shape names along the bottom.

The photographic evidence showed how much the children had really looked around their environment, seeing shapes in so many different things. Family walks may never be the same again!
