POETRY DECLAMATION EVENING

The Poetry Declamation evening on Thursday 12th March was a truly wonderful occasion, bringing together the 28 talented finalists from Years 3 to 8 in a celebration of spoken word.

The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as each pupil took to the stage with confidence, delivering their chosen poems (some of which were written themselves) with expression, clarity, and impressive stage presence. From humorous verses to more reflective and poignant pieces, the parent audience was captivated by the range of performances and the evident dedication each finalist had shown in preparing for the event.

The evening was expertly judged by Ms Leah Waltho, Head of English at St Mary’s Ascot, who praised the high standard of performances and the enthusiasm demonstrated by all participants. She was particularly impressed by the pupils’ ability to convey meaning and emotion, as well as their courage in performing in front of an audience.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all involved, celebrating not only individual achievement but also a shared appreciation for poetry and the power of spoken language.
