We were delighted to welcome around 20 professionals, also current Farleigh parents, to share their insightful advice at our recent Year 8 Careers Fair. Their expertise spans architecture, diplomacy, the creative industries, medicine, law, the military, and more.

Alongside an overview of what their profession involves, the panel presented their career journeys, shared advice they would give to their thirteen-year-old selves and answered a multitude of questions from our curious Year 8s. The sessions also focused on skills such as CV building and networking.

In their advice, parents particularly emphasized the importance of getting ‘stuck in’ in all aspects of school and university life, to hone their future skillset. They also assured our young people that a career journey is a process: passions may emerge over time, and their vision of a future career will becoming increasingly clear as they continue to discover their strengths.

When given the chance to question our panel, it was commented that the set of questions from the pupils were 'the most impressive we have ever seen' at a Year 8 Careers Fair. There was certainly a focus on the role of AI today, how this will affect the development of careers, be harnessed for good, and how young people are being trained to use AI tools to enhance their work.

There was a particularly impressive line of questioning directed towards Mr Wagstaff, AI Industry Lead (HiPo AI) at Google, ranging from queries about nuclear fission, to the use of AI in his work. The future is looking bright for our next generation of professionals.
