Year 2 Go Crazy for Castles

Year 2 are covering the stony subject of Castles this term, and we held a fantastic History Off the Page day, with a variety of great medieval activities to set the scene for their learning this term.

We had a monumental (pardon the pun) time dressing up as knights, princesses, queens, kings and a good smattering of hearty peasants, and it was all hands on deck as we entered the castle walls.

The morning began with us engaging in a variety of workshops. These included weaving, calligraphy, creating a gargoyle and making soap. We ground ingredients with a pestle and mortar and learned the rudiments of using a longbow and arrow. During the afternoon, we prepared for a banquet by practising telling jokes, jousting, acting and dancing so we could entertain guests at a banquet in the hall of the castle.

A wonderful time was had by all and now we understand more about what went on inside those stately walls!
