A Sporting September

As the summer draws to a close and the weather starts to misbehave, Farleigh footballers have been busy with their training and matches. Every boy in the school is currently playing football and in terms of matches there have been many positive results. The 1st XI have progressed well in the ISFA Cup and were winners of the IAPs Plate competition. The 2nd XI won the Highfield tournament. The U11As won both the Sherborne tournament and the Plate competition at Charterhouse, and the U10As lost in the quarter-finals at Charterhouse.

What is of equal importance is the spirit and attitude of pupils not involved in the teams mentioned, but still give 100% in their respective matches. There is lots of work still to be done and with several more tournaments and fixtures to play, it is an exciting time for the 'beautiful game' at Farleigh.

The autumn term for the girls is a mix of hockey and netball, plus a football fixture vs Cheam! The 1st team hockey travelled to Cheltenham College on the first Sunday of term for their annual prep schools festival, which was a great way to get the hockey season underway. The senior hockey teams have enjoyed matches against Dauntsey's and King Edward VI, Southampton, with both sets of fixtures providing some really close and exciting matches. The U11s started their season against Thorngrove and Stroud with comprehensive wins. They then travelled to Twyford who put out strong teams from A to C. Congratulations to the U11Cs for their 2-1 win.

The U10 netballers have played St Swithun's and Twyford this term. They are getting to grips with Bee Netball and rotating around the different positions on the court. The Years 3 and 4 girls have also played their first netball matches, against Prince's Mead and Twyford, and look forward to playing Cheam at hockey, next.

We are coming into an important part of the season when lots of tournaments are played. The 3rd team will represent Farleigh at the Hampshire Festival on Friday while the U11As travel to King's Bruton for the IAPS U11 Regional Qualifying. The following week the U12A team play at the Hampshire County Championship and the 1st team try to qualify for the Nationals at their IAPS Regional Qualifying! Good luck to all those involved.
