A spectacular Singin' in the Rain

How can we begin to say what a marvel the Year 8 production of Singin’ in the Rain Jnr was? A magical cast performed, with twin actors on alternative nights in some roles, and they brought the house down, never mind the rain!

America in the hey-day of the movies on its changeover from the silents to the ‘talkies’ was brought to the Farleigh stage in amazing style, complete with twirling umbrellas, moving solos, beautifully choreographed scenes and hilarious skits, all tied together by a ‘glorious’ performance from Algy R across all the shows. Favourite numbers such as Moses Supposes and Broadway Melody and of course, the eponymous Singin’ in the Rain, quite literally brought music to our ears as the children sang their hearts out.

Kevin Hession, Head of Drama, has been tireless in his pursuit of the best show possible and it has certainly paid off. He has inspired his cast to reach an excellent standard. William P, Harry F, Arthur B and Sebastian B shone in their counterpart roles on their respective nights, along with Hugh G, Ben G, Xanthe H and Rosie T-R, who also shone in their comedy roles, playing Lina Lamont and Cosmo Brown.  Leading the cast expertly as Don Lockwood, a role made famous by Gene Kelly, was Algy Royle. Mr Hession himself describes Algy as a star in the making, so we believe he is destined for great things! Gigi Florin played opposite Algy brilliantly, channelling the late Debbie Reynolds in her role as Kathy Selden.

The set, staging and blocking were outstanding, creating an atmosphere that was completely captivating. As always, the ensemble cast made the show what it was, with many notable performances as they brought the stage and story to life with their energy and enthusiasm.

We were transported to Broadway for an evening that won’t be forgotten, with everyone singin’ and any damp spirits completely washed away!
