We’re celebrating the many great Farleigh readers! Our Accelerated Reader programme is improving the children’s reading ability and compelling them to read for pleasure. This naturally leads to a flourishing Word Millionaire’s Club for which our most voracious readers are rewarded.

The Farleigh Millionaire's Club, which each year recognises the pupils who have read a million or more words, currently has 22 members, a stunning achievement since September. These pupils – and others who reach the magic milestone of a million words - are soon to be invited to a special lunch. At the end of last year, pupils in the Millionaire’s Club were awarded a huge number of extra merits over the course of the year, as well as certificates and a helium balloon, which they loved!

Since the start of this academic year, the top reader in the school is Emma G in Year 8, followed closely by Fingal E in Year 7, who are both well on the way to becoming triple millionaires! We even have reading millionaires in Years 4 and 5 and a couple on their way in Year 3. That there are millionaires in the lower years is astonishing - since they need to read more books than those in Years 6, 7 and 8. Amongst those pictured are Flora B, Audrey H, William S, Max H, Millie L and Freddie L who stand out as seasoned millionaires in the lower years, as well as Max B, Fingal E, Isabelle C, Miranda B, Henry W, Willow H, Tom B and Isla S. 

In addition to the word millionaires, we are celebrating the children who are burgeoning readers. This week, we launched the Farleigh Stars, which recognises the pupils who have made ‘exceptional progress’ in their reading and have significantly increased their reading age. The following pupils are Farleigh Stars, having made exceptional progress since September:
