Farleigh Celebrates World Book Day

On Thursday 6th March 2025, Farleigh celebrated a fantastic World Book Day. The atmosphere around the school was one of excitement as pupils proudly showed off their costumes as well as their favourite pieces of literature. The day kicked off with a wonderful poem in assembly, written by Mr Hine’s Year 7 English class, which highlighted the happiness of the day as well as what the school meant to them.

A plethora of classroom activities were completed, and a huge thank you to Mrs Rawlings for turning the library into a magical space for reading that even included a quiet reflection tent!

We all hope the children enjoyed the day and came away from it with some new knowledge and skills as well as a thirst to find their next fascinating read. A voucher was provided to all! Thank you to all the teachers for supporting this wonderful event and we look forward to next year already.

In Pre-Prep, we kicked off the day with a wonderful parade in the sunshine, featuring costumes ranging from the tree in The 13-Storey Treehouse to fairy tale hairdressers, Little Miss Hug, Mr Twit, a shark and even a four-person Very Hungry Caterpillar! Parents joined in the fun, and the children enjoyed showcasing their costumes and books.

We then split into our four Houses for some special World Book Day activities.

In Bunnies class, the children created green crispy rice krispy cake balls and linked them together to form an enormous Very Hungry Caterpillar, while also learning The Very Hungry Caterpillar rap!

In Hedgehogs class, the 'Aliens in Underpants' took charge, and the children crafted their own UFOs, decorating them with gems and jewels.

In Foxes class, the children engaged in a mindful origami activity, making Paddington Bear complete with his iconic hat.

Finally, in Badgers class, there were three activities inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, the woodcutter and the wolf! The children made sweets for Grandma, sequenced the story with their friends and created glasses for Grandma to see better.

The children rotated through the activities in their Houses throughout the morning, ensuring everyone had a chance to try everything. The older children were particularly kind, helping the younger ones when needed.
