Full on Summer Fun

The courses throughout the summer holidays were great fun and once again well attended. The range of activities included football, tennis, cricket, multi-sports, gymnastics, basketball, bushcraft and even our very own Farleigh School Commonwealth Games, attended by children from Farleigh and from elsewhere. Alan Wright, Director of Sport and Co-Curricular said, "It was great to see the smiles and friendships being made."

June Keen, our LTA Level 4 tennis coach and Tennis Coordinator, said of the tennis, “What fun we had on our two tennis camps this year. We spent time on stroke technique, tactics, match play, and played lots of fun games. Children from Pre-Prep all the way through to Year 8 leavers spent all day with our fantastic team of coaches and by the end of the week we were all tired, tanned, happy... and much better tennis players! Well done, everybody.”

Miss Le Blancq, Head of PE, ran several courses and reports that “the gymnasts worked incredibly hard developing a wide range of skills on floor, vault and beam. Key highlights were the backflip machine, working on walkovers, landing key skills on beam and exploring squat/straddle through and handspring vaults. Every gymnast involved managed to significantly improve their individual skills and had lots of new accomplishments. I am so proud every gymnast completed the week on a high with sparkly fingers and a smile!”

Her Commonwealth Games were a huge success. Every child was allocated to one of the following teams: Barbados, Cameroon, Cyprus, Fiji or Wales. The pupils worked incredibly hard across the week participating in athletics, basketball, boules, cricket, golf, hockey, table tennis, shooting, synchronised swimming, diving and a variety of Commonwealth Games-themed arts and crafts. The competition was close throughout the week, but Barbados took the lead on the final day and were crowned Farleigh School Commonwealth Games Champions 2022. Miss Le Blancq added, “The pupils loved developing their knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth Games and participated in each event with excellent sportsmanship.”

In the final week of the holidays, a good number of pupils came into school for the pre-season netball, hockey and football training. All the children were fantastic! They worked hard and the few hours we had with the different age groups has helped to prepare for a busy term of sport.
