Inspiration from the Professionals

When anticipating the visits last week of Miles Reid (Bath RFC professional rugby player) and Kelly Simm (Gymnastic Commonwealth Gold Medalist), the excitement and buzz around the school was palpable.

On Wednesday, Miles kindly came and held a fantastic and illuminating Q&A with the children and staff, then he worked with the Years 7 & 8 boys in what could not have been a more inspiring start to their rugby season. He was so generous with his time and gave some very helpful tips: bend your knees whilst tackling and in the scrum, commit, concentrate on your technique (not your size!) and enjoy it!

On Thursday, we were delighted to have Kelly in to visit our Pre-Prep children, and then to spend time later on in the day with some of our senior gymnasts, who attend the after-school club with Miss Le Blancq (herself a coach to the Jersey team).

Kelly gave a fantastic assembly, showcasing her international-grade skills, and the looks on the faces of the children as she performed some aerial moves was priceless. Reception and Years 1 & 2 also benefitted from a lesson with Kelly, looking at a combination of fitness and gymnastics.

It was amazing to have both these professionals with us last week. Hearing people who have reached the top levels in their sport talk about how their journey unfolded, receiving direct coaching from them and getting to touch a Commonwealth gold medal, are special moments. It will be an experience that many of the children will never forget.
