Preparing for Advent

Advent is a season that can easily get lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas activities and we are always conscious at Farleigh that our term often ends just as Advent starts!

This year our theme has been keys, with Jesus being the key which unlocks our hearts and minds to show us the way to Eternal Life. All the children prepared their keys in RS lessons and reflected on a promise they could make to help them prepare for Christmas. They have been promises full of warm and thoughtful ideas, focused on family and their communities.

By the time you read this they should have also brought home a Prayer Card to place by their bed, to act as a gentle reminder to pray each night during this holy season.

The Chapel provides a different type of opportunity for prayer, in part demonstrated by carefully considered intentions written on gift tags, which the children place in the empty manger when they have prayed for their chosen intention, whether it be the homeless, refugees, family or friends. It is lovely to see these initiatives encouraging the children to reflect on how lucky they are, the needs of others and the real meaning of Christmas.
