Sporting Days to Celebrate

Sports Days Across the School

It’s been a week crammed with sporting action, kicking off on Saturday morning with an excellently-supported Prep Sports Day, followed swiftly on Tuesday with the (equally joyfully-supported) Kindergarten and Pre-Prep Sports Days.

How fantastic it has been this year to have a return to these events in their full glory, with parents and grandparents able to support fully and the children able to experience the colour and excitement (and added competition) of representing their Houses.

The weather for both days was ideal and we were treated to seeing the children perform exceptionally well. Two school records were broken, much to everyone’s delight.

Congratulations to Merlins, who beat Buzzards to 1st place by just 10 points! Kestrels were 3rd and Eagles, 4th.

Athletics records broken at Sports Day
Year 7 Boys' Long Jump - Henry W beat his own record with a massive leap of 5.05m
Year 5 Girls' 800m - Scarlett L beat the record set by Eloise H at Junior Wessex with a run of 3 minutes, 04.10s

High Standards for House Cricket

As girls’ cricket continues to develop at a national level, how gratifying to see the effect of this in schools. It was certainly in evidence at the annual House cricket, co-ed for the first time this year at Farleigh, with the boys and girls of all levels competing together.

It was clear throughout the afternoon how much the girls have taken to cricket over the last few years, since their change from rounders. The once large divide between the boys and girls in cricket was clearly much smaller, with some fantastic play on display all round. As I walked around and watched the children in action, I was very proud of the standard of play that was being achieved by all of our cricketers, irrespective of gender, and I know this sentiment was being echoed by many of our watching parents.
