Steve Leek

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Steve Leek who for 30 years was the Head of Science at Farleigh. Steve died on 24th May, having explored every way of confronting his diagnosis of cancer. He bore a considerable amount of treatment with dignity, optimism and good humour.

Remembering his colleague and friend, Martin Butt, Head of Latin, writes, "The children liked Steve's down to earth approach and he had a wonderful rapport with them. He told them jokes which they loved and he had the strictest regard for fair play. I never heard him say he didn't like someone. He was as tough as old boots, but his manner was gentle, and although he had some very carefully considered views he certainly didn't force them on others. He was very intelligent and had a deep love and understanding of his subject. He called a spade a spade and he thoroughly enjoyed the company of his colleagues. Everybody I have spoken to has immediately said what a nice, straightforward man he was."

We plan to hold a memorial service to celebrate Steve's life at Farleigh in due course, which current parents and pupils, as well as former Farleigh parents and alumni, will be welcome to attend. Details will be announced on the school website and disseminated via the Farleigh Society.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jane, her children, and Steve's sons. Jane would like to thank all of you who have kindly sent letters of condolence.
