Vive les langues à Farleigh

Happy European Day of Languages! Our French and Spanish teachers – as well as other linguists in the school - are thrilled to be marking the day for the second year running.

This morning the pupils were encouraged to greet each other in different languages, and some forms attempted a quiz where they listened to a recording of a short conversation and had to identify the language. At lunchtime, the catering staff had prepared a delicious Italian-themed lunch, including tiramisu, which was accompanied by Señorita Norgrove's favourite Spanish music, Monsieur Kennard's favourite French music and Mr Napthine's favourite Portuguese music.

Language learning is well and truly flourishing at Farleigh. Last year we saw Duolingo taking off with pupils and teachers alike battling it out to get to the top of the league. There are so many advantages to learning a foreign language: it boosts creativity, teaches us about different cultures, helps us to understand our own language better, and it stimulates our brain (nothing beats that!). Recently, Monsieur Kennard was impressed to see King Charles flying the flag for languages and addressing guests at the Palais de Versailles in French. Vive les langues à Farleigh!
