The last Wednesday of term saw the whole school community gather round the giant Christmas tree in the Farleigh Amphitheatre. All the pupils, from Reception to Year 8, plus almost all the staff in the school too - teachers, accounts, office, housekeeping and more – joined the collective sing-song. Led marvellously by Mr English, Mrs Jago and Mr Wood – with Mrs Rockhill doing her splendid thing on the keyboard – we sang some of our favourite carols and Christmas songs, from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to arguably the best one (in our opinion!), The Twelve Days of Christmas.
It was wonderful to witness the camaraderie amongst the children and see bigs and littles huddle together around their song sheets, as our Prep and Pre-Prep Buddies shared in another memorable experience. The children’s behaviour was impeccable, the singing enthusiastic and tuneful but never raucous, and there was an overwhelming sense of community and togetherness.
“It was quite special standing at the front and being able to see it all,” said Mr Reeves, Director of Music. “In fact, it was quite moving. It’s a shame that there’s no real way to capture that atmosphere but if any visitor was to witness that, nobody could fail to overlook such an evident and strong sense of what lies at the heart of Farleigh. It was a brilliant way to start the day.”
A magical way to end a fantastic term.
