After three thrilling and fun-packed days hors-piste, Year 6 returned to a wonderful day of complete immersion in la vie française! The day dawned with a delicious classic French breakfast of pastries, accompanied by the iconic confiture de fraises, creamy chocolat chaud et jus d’orange. This was followed by a fabulously fun day of activities, including drama (but perhaps not quite yet up to Molière standard), French culture and IT (during which the children were introduced to Duolingo; already Year 6 have overtaken every other year group!).
French flair pervaded all the children’s creations during their design in the woods session, which was inspired by classic French symbols. Everyone enjoyed helping to create a mouth-watering selection of French viennoiseries in the form of croissants and pain au chocolat and the (mainly) harmonious sound of popular French songs was heard floating through the Farleigh airways. The day would not have been complete without a few competitive games of pétanque.
The element of competition was aroused in Year 6 by all 71 pupils being split as equally as mathematically possible into Monsieur Kennard’s four favourite regions of France. Results, Eurovision-style, are due imminently. We can state confidently that nobody will be getting nul points!
Lunch, of course, was no trivial affair but instead a four-course culinary delight. Monsieur Kennard and his team insisted on French at all times and, for the first time ever, Fr Simon allowed the tricolore to fly above Farleigh!
Whether you are staycationing or venturing across the Channel during the holidays, please remember to keep practising your French because (as they say at L’Oreal) you’re worth it! Vive l'Entente Cordiale!
